current event 12/17/12

Current events assignment

1. Topic: 1 pt.

  • What is the topic of your article?
The topic of my article is a drone that can deliver burritos.
2. Article Title: 1 pt.

  • What is the title of your article? Exact wording.
Burrito Bomber UAV delivers edible payload
3. Article Source: 1 pt.

Burrito Bomber UAV delivers edible payload

4. Summary:

Basically the article is about a team of designers at Darwin Aerospace built this drone that can deliver food orders within minutes. It can be done from wherever you are at because it uses the app that is on your phone as a way point for the drone to find you. It drops it right from the sky and floats down to you with a parachute so it doesn't become destroyed.
5. Reaction:
I think this is really cool yet creepy at the same time. I feel if people can do this then what else can they do. I think this is really cool because if you have to wait in a real long line for something and you get hungry you can get a burrito dropped to you. This would probably affect me because i would get hungry and want to just see it float down.
6. World Impact:
This will impact the world by leading to more obesity and yet less pollution. It can lead to more obesity because people they can have food whenever they want it wherever. It can lead to less pollution because it will lead to less cars having to drive which leads to less gas being put into the air. It can also put people out of jobs because with this you do not need delivery boys. This can lead to the economy becoming worse.

11/19/12 current event

Current events assignment

1. Topic:
  • What is the topic of your article?
The topic of my article is about how a guy broke the
Guinness World Record for longest video game marathon.

2. Article Title: 1 pt.
  • What is the title of your article? Exact wording.
Guinness World Record for longest video game marathon broken
3. Article Source: 1 pt.

4. Summary:
  • Briefly, and in your own words, summarize the content of the article.
  • 3 sentence minimum
The article is about how this guy is has been playing call of duty black ops 2  for 121 hours straight. He has broken the Guinness world record for longest video marathon. He is still playing as we speak and continuing this long video gaming streak.
5. Reaction

  •  I think that this is not really that big of an accomplishment. I feel people should find something better to do with their time like get a job. This event does not affect me in anyway because I have better things to do with my life besides play video games all day. There is not really an issue but it is encouraging more people to play the game. Which in turn will make more money for the company.

6. World Impact: 6 pt.        This event does not really impact the world that much. It may cause the call of duty makers to buy some companies out and put them out of business. It will also probably cause some peoples vision to get worse because they are starring at a T.V screen all day. It may cause the obesity rate to go up because kids are not going out side and playing as much. Which can cause the death rate to go up.

Identity theft

This week we learned about a few things that are very useful in everyday life when on the intranet.  We learned about identity theft, people how they try to scam you online, and the information they try to steal from you.

First I want to describe a couple of terms that we learned. The first one is scams. Scams are an attempt to trick someone with the intention of stealing your money or your private information. It is like when you get emails that want you to confirm your bank account number. The next one is Identity theft. Identity theft is where someone steals your private information and uses it for criminal activity. The word is vulnerable and it means a position that makes it easier for you to be harmed or attacked. The last one is phishing no not with a rod and reel. Phishing I when people send you emails texts pop-ups to lure you to a fake website to try to get your personal information. Which will lead to our digital literacy component.

The main thing we learned about was how and what kind of information people try to steal from you online. The types of information that people try to steal from you are : bank account numbers, social security numbers, addresses, your full name, and your drivers licences number.

Some of the following things can happen to you if your identity is stolen: accounts hacked, jail, money stolen, get in trouble with your parents, debt, and you could go bankrupt.

The five rules to protect yourself from scams can help from these things ever happening.

  • Avoid opening the message or email in the first place if you know its a scam.
  • Don't click on any links or download any attachments that may contain spyware or viruses.
  • Don't reply to these messages or emails.
  • Mark these types of messages or emails as junk mail or spam for your email provider, or report it to your social network site.
  • If you are concerned about an account you have with a company, contact its customer service department by phone. Make sure you verify the companies information elsewhere online first.

This new information about how scamers try to steal your information online will hopefuly keep my information safe from scamers. It will help me be more careful online.

As always I am ready for a fun restful weekend as I am sure everyone is. Now all y'all viewers be safe online and use the information shared.

Data Tracking

This week in Ms. Payseurs class we learned about how people track your data online. We learned how people track your data through schemes and other types of ways. We also learned how to use this online scrapbook called Mixbook.

The new terms we learned this week were track, target, demographic, cookies. The first term we learned about was track. Tracking online is when companies collect information about you based on your online behavior. Another term we learned was target. A target is when companies tailor content to you based on the information they have collected about you. When you go on Google or some other kind of search engine it gives you suggestions this is the same thing. Demographic is common categories of the population such as age, gender, and race. Cookies are data files stores on your computer when you visit certain sites, which are often used companies to identify a repeat customer. They use these to personalize a customers experience.

This all tied in with our digital literacy component. The digital literacy component is why companies track your data and what they do with it. The reason companies track your data is because when they track it they can sell it for money.  A couple of main  ways you can avoid this are When you play a game online that you have to sign up for make sure you read the terns of use. Another main way you can avoid it is by changing your computer setting to restrict cookies.  Then after they collect your information and they sell it you may start to get a lot of spam on your E-mail and other types of things.

The next cool thing we leaned how to use was this website called Mixbook.  Basically  Mixbook is a online scrapbook. It lets you do almost anything you would want to do with a regular hard copy scrapbook. The best part about is it is free to make it just costs you to get it published. The positive things about this is it was pretty easy to use. It was kind of easy to navigate around the site  It was also easy to upload pictures. The negatives of this site were it was not very  easy to change the size of your text boxes. That was really the only main problem I had with it they could still try to make it easier to navigate around the site. This is the mixbook that I created to

The new information I have learned this week will help me keep my information safe from people that may be tracking me. For the most part this week has been pretty good. We are having a lot of fun in our brand new building. I am having a lot of fun with spirit week. Most of the teacher of been awesome. I am making good grades and have some pretty cool friends.

As always ready for a long restful weekend. Yall be good now ya here.

Current events assignment

1. Topic:
My topic is about how people were on twitter last night tweeting about the presidential election.
2. Article Title: America Tweeted Till Its Fingers Bled Last Night
3. Article Source:
4. Summary:
My article is about how so many people were on twitter last night.  It talks about how most of the posts were made by democrats.  It also talks about how the record was broken last night but record was beaten previous during the first presidential debate.
    5. Reaction:.
I personally believe that people get to worked up over the presidential election. I think that people should not discuss things like this online. I feel that people should not talk about the election online because people can be offended. This event did not really affect me because I was not online discussing this event. It also does not affect me because I do not use twitter.
      6. World Impact:
This event impacts the world because when people talk about things that can cause people to get into an argument over things such as the elections. It will give twitter a bad name also because of some of the things may do if they get mad. It could also cause twitter to lose users. It can also cause riots to brake out because things that happen online can cause people to do things out in the world. It can be very harmful to people because things that happen online can be seen by everybody and could cause people to lose their jobs. They can lose their jobs just because of what their political views might be or just the way they acted.

        Current events assignment

        1. Topic:
        • The topic of my article is about how hurricane Sandy has  knocked out 25% of cellphone towers in ten different states.

        2. Article Title:
        • FCC: Sandy Took Down 25% Of Cell Towers In 10 States

        3. Article Source:

        4. Summary

        • My article is about how hurricane Sandy has  knocked out 25% of cellphone towers in ten different states. It is talking about how people think that Sandy's slow passing  is good but its not. It is going to make things even worse because it is going to take longer to get the power lines back up and the same thing for cellphone towers.
        5. Reaction:
I agree with the article it is a bad thing that it is moving slowly. If it moves slower and lingers around these states then the repair crews cannot get out in the storm to repair the telephone lines and towers. If it hurry's and moves faster then they can go ahead and get out there and fix these things and restore the cellphone connections and house phone connections. I feel sorry for the people who had to live through this not because of just losing there cellphones but also there houses being flooded and all kinds of different things .This event does not really affect me  because I don't live near the coast and it did not really hit my city.

          6. World Impact:
I do not think this event impacts the entire world that much. It does impact the entire east coast of the United States. It may cause the phone bills of cellphone companies to raise their prices. They may do this because it costs a lot of money to repair these things. Then the raising of phone bills may cause people to drop there current plan and start looking for another company with cheaper prices.

            Staying Real Online

This week in Ms. Payseurs class we learned about how to be true to yourself online. We also learned technology etiquette for when you are out in the world. It was a lot of fun in her class on how to use this really cool website called Glogster. We also learned some new terms that really helped me understand how to be yourself online.

The terms we learned this week are represent, persona, avatar, anonymous, and inhibited.  The word represented means how you present yourself to others. An example of this could be if you go to a fancy restaurant and you can either present yourself in a positive way or a negative way. The word persona means image you portray to others.  Sort of like a picture online. Avatar is a graphic that represents you online. It is a cartoon of mythical creature that represents you.Anonymous is a hidden identity. Sort of like an anonymous source on the news. Inhibited is careful about your actions or impulse. Kind of like when you were a little kid your mom always telling you to be careful about every little thing.

The next thing that we learned how to use was this really cool website called Glogster. Glogster is basically a photo blog. It was used by my 9th Grade class to make this glog about staying real online.
Some of the positives for this website were it was real easy to use. It was easy to upload pictures to the site also. It was laid out very good and was easy to navigate around the site. The Negative that I have mainly is that when resizing things it will not let you just make them shorter or longer you had to make the whole thing smaller. Those were the main problems I had with it. Otherwise it was a great site to use.

The next major thing I want to tell about is our digital literacy components learned this week.
The first thing we learned about was staying real and true to yourself online. This very important because it can hurt you and your future. It is important to be yourself online because if you are being fake and someone finds out who would believe you or trust you ever again. That is just a couple consequence but, there is many more consequences out there and don't explore them through experience. Stay true to yourself.

We also learned about technology etiquette. If you don't know what this is it is basically just regular  etiquette but, when you are on electronics. If someone calls you on your cellphone and you are in a movie theater. The wrong thing to do would be to answer the phone and carry on a conversation. The right thing to do would be to drop the call step out into the lobby and return the call. That is basically all technology etiquette is. We use this cool website called Digital Drivers License to learn this.

This new information I have learned will hopefully stay away from being fake online and also being respectful while using my electronics.

Overall My week has been pretty good. We got the exact move in date for when we can move into our new building. Iam ready for a happy restful weekend with my family.

            Current Event 10/23/12

            1. Topic:
The topic of my article is how they have discovered a new way to protect passwords and user names on websites and other online services.

            2. Article Title:
To Keep Passwords Safe from Hackers, Just Break Them into Bits

            3. Article Source:
            • Where did you get the article? Hyperlink it.

            4. Summary:

The article is about a new system that lets online services and websites protect peoples passwords. What it does is it separates the information into two different locations.

This way if a hacker does try to steal the information he has to break into two different systems. This way it is protecting the information better.

            5. Reaction:
I feel that this is a great new thing because it will keep peoples information safer. I think this is a great achievement for the people of the creating program.

It will keep my information safer from people online because someone had broke into my account from Japan. This will hopefully keep this from ever happening again. I believe that hackers will figure away around this system.

            6. World Impact:
This event will impact the world in a good way. It will keep peoples information a lot safer.  It will hopefully keep cut down on some of the robbery's that are done electronically.

This will change how hackers  have to break into information therefore making criminals a lot smarter. This will also make it easier for police or other law enforcement to catch these hackers.

            Cyberbullying

This week some of the new terms we learned about were cyber-bullying. The terms we learned for this horrible thing is the type of people involved in it. The first term we learned about was the target. The target is the victim of the bullying.

Another term we learned about was the offender. The offender is the bully. If someone is trying to harm you or hurt you physically or verbally they are considered a bully.

The next two terms are up-stander and bystander. An up-stander is someone who takes up for the victim. The bystander is a witness who does nothing to help the victim in anyway.

The last two terms we learned about this week was escalate and deescalate. Escalate is to intensify or increase. Deescalate is to decrease in intensity.

A way for the target to not make the situation between you and the bully more intense you could ignore them. If it is on a social media site you could block or even report them. You could even confront them about it and just ask them to stop.

Cyber-bullying is our digital literacy component for the week. Most people do not know what this is and do not know this is a growing problem not just in the United States but all over the world.

Cyber-bullying is the exact same thing as bullying in person except worse.
When you cyber-bully, it is online for everyone in the world who wants to see. It is also there forever.  So, this is very bad for our children of the world. It is bad for every one in the world to see because it could lead to the point were everybody gets in on it and could make you do something you would regret. This is also not good because when it is out on the internet it could cause you problems in the future. It is bad for the children of our world because it can leave scars on there life

If you are a bully or just a bystander, stop bullying and for the bystanders and the bully become an up-stander.  Our teacher had us make this video on how to go from being a bystander to an upstander.

She showed us this really cool site called WeVideo.com. It is this website that allows you to make and edit videos.

The negative aspect of this website is it is very complicated to use if you are not very good with computers.
The positive aspect of this tool is it can be used to teach people about things, entertain people, or let people know about important topics or events.

This will help me make better decisions in my life because we have seen things that kids have done through cyberbullying and I do not want to be apart of it. I will start treating people better online and off. This will hopefully change my life and point it in a better direction.

Overall my week has been fantastic and could have probably not went any better. I have learned alot from my teachers. I am liking the Gaston Early College Program alot and Hopefully going to graduate from this magnificent school.

Always I am ready for a good restful weekend.

            Sexting

This week in Mrs. Payseurs class we learned some new terms that I really did not know much about.
The term that really stuck  out to me was Sexting. This is when you either request or send a nude picture of yourself or someone else. This is really a bad thing the way my morale's are set.

The other two terms that I did not really know about were reciprocate, and self disclosure. Reciprocate means to give in return, and self disclosure is sharing private, sensitive, or confidential information about yourself to other people.

Don't ever sext anyone because it could hurt you in your life in the present and in the future. Just one example is if you have sent a sext and it gets out there for everyone to see you could get teased about this and possibly leads you to the point where you commit suicide.

This has happened before and probably not be the last if this does not stop.

The new web tool we learned how to use this week was makebeleifscomix.com.
We had to build a comic on a way to avoid Sexting and one on how to build a stronger relationship online. This is what I come up with so I hope you enjoy it.

How to build a relationship online

            How to Avoid Sexting
A good thing about this is it is a great way to be simple and get a point across about something. On the other hand it does not have very many features that lets you create your own comic the way you want.

It only has about twenty characters to choose from therefore making anybody who uses this website like someone else comic.

The  Digital literacy we learned about this week is health and wellness. It taught us to not text and drive which know one in the world should do.

We watched videos on how people text and drive that have killed young children an older adults and it made me have sorrow in my heart. So please do not text or talk on your cellphones while driving.

This new information I have learned this week will help me stay safe while I am driving  and hopefully keep my parents, and family safe also.

Overall my week has been very good it flew buy so fast I guess this what happens when you are having fun with your friends. Unlike the other Grammar test this week I did way better with it and it was without notes.  I had a little trouble with geometry this week but I worked it out with my teacher.

As always I am ready for a good restful weekend to regain some thought and just have a little fun.  I am so excited about this weekend with my wonderful but annoying family.

            current event 10/10/12

            Current events assignment
            1.Topic:

The topic of my article is talking about the price of the new Iphone5.

            2. Article Title:
The iPhone 5 really costs you $1800

            3. Article Source:

            4. Summary:
This article is talking about the price of the new iPhone 5. It describes in detail how much the phone is and what you are actually paying for.

The majority of the cost comes from the service that you have to buy. Also in the article it talks about  how you have to buy new accessories because the old ones will not work.

You have to get new cases if you want them, a new charger, then there is still money to spent on apps. The minimum for this with the cheapest  service is easily $1800.

            5. Reaction:

This is not really good for the customers point because this is a lot of money just for a high quality phone that is almost identical to the iPhone 4. I feel like if the service was not as expensive then some people might to be able to afford it.

To me though I'm happy with my $30 dollar Tracfone. It may not be fancy but it gets the job done. It does not affect me much in any way because I can not afford it.

It also does not affect me because I do not need a phone of this quality.

            6. World Impact:
I do not think this will affect the world very much because it is so expensive. If some people have this kind of money to spend then it could help the economy of the U.S  extremely.

This technological device is another small step for technology.  This will affect the world  because it is another step to making everything electronic.

This will also impact the world because the increase in technology every time is making another great tool for the people of the world.

              weely blog #5

Create your own mind maps at MindMeister

This week our new web 2.0 tool was Mind Meister. It is this cool website that lets you create these cool presentations. It is easy to use and great for presenting ideas and views.

Some of the new terms we learned this week we learned was in the form of an acronym.

Authority-who wrote it who published it? Does the author have any expertise on the topic you are researching? What else has the author written on this topic? Have you ever seen or heard the authors name before?

Sources-If information is fact then it needs documentation. Documentation is the citations and sources that the author of the article you are using is the information the author used in the article.
Does the author include citations, footnotes, and a bibliography.

Purpose- Why was the source written? If you don't know why the source was written then how do you know it is a good source? Basically what soes the source do.

Evenness_ Is the article biased in any way? Is it presented objectively? Is the bias acknowledged? If the source is biased this does not mean you cannot use it just try to get more than that source to make sure that you are getting a good range and balance of information.

Coverage- How thoroughly is your topic covered? Is the information in the source new? Does the information support what you have found in other sources? Does the source provide good enough information  for your needs?

Timeliness-When was it written? Is the information up to date? It is best to look for up to date information. It also depends on your topic.

Why Evaluate                                                                                                 How do I Evaluate
                                                                                                                                      Three criteria
              1)authority
              2)Accuracy
              3) Bias
              Because anyone can put anything
              on the internet

This week in our digital literacy component we learned about this week was to evaluate websites. The reason we are being taught this is because anyone can put anything on the internet. These skills are good to have so you don't get bamboozled online.

This information will help me evaluate things and internet websites so that I will not get messed up with fake information.

My week has been a little frustrating because I have had work in classes that I did not understand. Some teachers have been a little annoying and caused me problems. It will hopefully get better once I get fully adjusted to this high school lifestyle.

I am ready for a relaxing weekend to get myself together again and ready for another long hard week of school.

              1. Topic:

My article is talking about Barnes and Noble's new Nook.

              2. Article Title:

Nook HD Hands On: Is Having the Best Display Enough?

              3. Article Source:

Where did you get the article? Hyperlink it.

              4. Summary:

My article is about how the new nook compares to Kindle and the other types of devices like it. How the piece of technology looks. What kind of software it has. It also talks about the prices of the new Nook.

               5. Reaction:

I think that the new Nook is going to be great I think that they will fly off the shelves. The only thing is they are a little pricey if you ask me.

I mean they could use cheaper parts but, I guess  this would take away the quality of the product. I believe if you want a good product then you will have to pay a little more.

I feel that it is a waste of time to make small gains and producing a new one every year. If they would just wait for 2-4 years and make some major gains I feel they would get more business.

This event does not really affect me in any way. I do not have a problem just going to the library checking out a book and reading it.

It will affect me though if they keep on making advances in technology and get rid of hard copies of books completely.

              6. World Impact:

This event will make a pretty good impact on the world because it may boost up the economy. The more stuff that people buy the better the economy is.

This may also make a bad impact on the world. If the technology in today's world keeps improving at a rapid pace everything may have something to do with electronics. The people of today need to get
               back to their roots.

This may also put some companies out of business. Which may make the economy worse.

              Loop test 1

A new word we learned about this week was reputation- it is a general impression held by others and the public. I really already kind of knew what this term was but, this kind of explained it in a more clear way for me to understand.

This also has a lot to do with posting stuff online. Once you post something online then it is out there for everyone to see. Say if a picture of yourself got on the internet that you are not particularly proud of, this can affect your reputation in your daily life.

This can cause you to lose the opportunity to even get a job. People can also mess with photos and make you look bad. So be careful about what you post online.

Another word we learned was persist- this means to continue on and also to endure. Persistence is something everybody should have and want to have if you do not. If you have a kind of a give up attitude then you will probably not reach your highest potential in life.

Context can also be a bad and a good thing. Context is words that surround  information and help determine its meaning. Say you hang out with a bunch of people that look like thugs but they're really good people.

You hang out with them and you will also get judged the same way it is basically the same thing as context.

Tag and caption are basically the same thing. If  you do not know what this means it is words, terms, or even a sentence that  describes photos or videos.

The web tools we learned about this week was photo editing websites. This is how people can change your photo and make you look bad with this type of tool if they have bad intentions against you.

We also learned about this cool website called digital drivers license. It lets you learn about showing respect and all kinds of nifty stuff on this awesome teaching tool.

We did not learn this for that type of reason. We were shown this for educational purposes (don't use this in the way that was described bad). The picture editing website I used is hyper linked here.

These are a good  and  bad way this type of tool can be used online.

See people can do anything with photos online so be careful out there. The positive things about this is it can make a person look good in a way. It can also make a person look bad which is something you should not want to do.

This information that I have learned will make me be safer about what I put online and how I treat people online because I do not want them to do this to me.

I have had an okay week it has been good and bad. I did good on some tests. The one major bad thing that happened to me this week was when I bombed my first loop one grammar test and it did not help my grade go up any. Other than that it has been an awesome week.

Also I don't know about the people who are reading this but I am ready for a real fun weekend.
